Construction will soon begin on a new purpose-built NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Unit and Incident Control Centre in Goulburn after the first sod was turned on the site today.
The new facility, which is jointly funded by the NSW Government, Commonwealth Government and Goulburn Mulwaree Council, will provide the local SES Unit with increased operational capacity through fit-for-purpose operational amenities.
Once complete the building will accommodate rescue vehicles and specialist equipment, as well as provide training space for volunteers. Additional parking, increased storage, a communications room, change room facilities and rescue equipment will also be part of the new facility.
As part of the build, a shared Emergency Operations Centre will be constructed for all emergency services to coordinate, communicate and respond to future incidents from a central location.
A tender was awarded to ARG Multigroup for the design and construction of the facility, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The new Goulburn SES Unit and Emergency Operations Centre will be built on Crundwell Street nearby the current council depot.
NSW Government committed $2,150,000 to the build, the Commonwealth Government committed $1,495,000 to the project, and Goulburn Mulwaree Council contributed $725,500.
Minister for Emergency Services, Jihad Dib said the NSW SES played a critical role in local communities, by attending calls for assistance during storms, floods, and other emergency incidents.
“We are proud to partner with the Commonwealth Government and the Council to support this project. The NSW Government has contributed $2.15 million to this fantastic new training and rescue facility, which will help our dedicated NSW SES volunteers better serve and assist the community in their time of need,” Minister Dib said.
“It takes a special type of person to volunteer their time to keep communities safe, and the new facilities will help local SES crew carry out their valuable role.”
NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York APM the new Goulburn Unit was a state-of-the-art design which would be replicated in other new unit builds across the state.
“This new unit will ensure our SES members have the facilities they require and will enable them to better support their local communities when they need our assistance,” Commissioner York said.
“In the past year alone, the Goulburn Unit has responded to almost 200 calls for assistance, including flood rescues, land searches, storm response and general land rescue incidents.”
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Peter Walker said the council was thrilled to see construction on the new facility commence.
“This collaborative effort between the NSW Government, Commonwealth Government, and Goulburn Mulwaree Council will enhance our local SES Unit’s capabilities and provide essential resources for our dedicated volunteers,” Clr Walker said.
“The new facility will not only support our SES members but also strengthen our community’s resilience in times of need. I look forward to witnessing the positive impact this project will have on our region.”
