Contract awarded for the North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program

Department of Defence

The Australian Government has awarded CPB Contractors Pty Ltd the $111.2 million North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program across RAAF Base Townsville, Townsville Field Training Area and HMAS Cairns.

The contract includes the delivery of new and upgraded engineering services, building refurbishment works, and additional transit living-in accommodation.

First Assistant Secretary Infrastructure Division, Security and Estate Group, Mr Dan Fankhauser, said the program was an investment in the region and supported future Defence estate needs.

“North Queensland is and will remain an important maritime, land and air hub for Defence into the future,” Mr Fankhauser said.

“The North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program ensures the ongoing sustainability of critical infrastructure in support of Australian Defence Force capability across the Townsville and Cairns region.”

CPB Contractors will target its trade packages to local businesses, which is expected to bring a significant investment to North Queensland construction and trade industries and suppliers.

In addition, CPB Contractors have committed to building the capability of the local workforce and offering entry level pathways for local school leavers and job seekers, by including trainees and apprentices in their workforce.

“Through the commitment to high local participation and apprenticeship targets, this will be a significant investment in the local economy,” Mr Fankhauser said.

The program’s construction phase will commence in early 2023, with construction anticipated to be complete by mid-2025.
