Coronavirus update for Victoria 20 April 2022

There are 437 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 28 active cases in ICU, including 12 on a ventilator, and an additional 6 cleared cases in ICU.

6,176,733 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 3,476 administered yesterday at state-run centres.

67.1 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 94.5 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses.

10,628 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded yesterday. This includes 7,440 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test and 3,188 who returned a positive result on a PCR test.

Sadly, the Department was notified of 14 deaths yesterday of a people aged in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Twelve of today’s reported deaths occurred in the past week including seven deaths in the past two days. Two historic death reports were reclassified yesterday. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,860.

There are 53,518 active cases in Victoria.

15,868 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 20,353,228.

Easing of restrictions

Victoria will move into winter safely with most restrictions removed from 11:59pm, Friday 22 April.

A number of critical and common-sense settings will be retained, including the essential requirement to isolate for seven days following a COVID-19 diagnosis and existing two-dose and three-dose vaccination mandates for workers.
