Coronavirus update for Victoria 22 April 2022

There are 428 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 24 active cases in ICU, including 8 on a ventilator, and an additional 6 cleared cases in ICU.

6,183,419 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 3,235 administered yesterday at state-run centres.

67.3 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 94.5 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses.

9,439 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded yesterday. This includes 5,790 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test and 3,649 who returned a positive result on a PCR test.

Sadly, the Department was notified of 16 deaths yesterday of people aged in their 50s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Eleven of today’s reported deaths occurred in the past week including 5 deaths that occurred in the past two days. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,887.

There are 54,002 active cases in Victoria.

18,968 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 20,392,796.

Easing of restrictions tonight

From 11:59pm tonight, Friday 22 April, Victoria will move into winter safely with most restrictions removed.

Retained settings include the essential requirement to isolate for seven days following a COVID-19 diagnosis and all existing two-dose and three-dose vaccination mandates for workers.
