At its meeting on Tuesday 16 May, Council adopted new Coastal and Marine Management Plans (CMMP) for Flinders, Mount Eliza and Portsea. Community members and stakeholder groups have been eager to provide their input – during last year’s community consultation we received more than 570 submissions.
Each plan guides sustainable management of these iconic and valued coastlines for the next 5-10 years. Highlights from the plans include:
Flinders
- Improved pedestrian access and safety
- Improved vegetation management
- Preservation and celebration of local heritage.
Mount Eliza
- Protection of unique cultural and geological features
- Improved pedestrian access and carparking arrangements
- Improved resilience to coastal erosion.
Portsea
- Improved pedestrian access and connectivity
- Advocacy for erosion mitigation
- Improved car parking and traffic management.
The development of Coastal and Marine Management Plans is a statutory requirement under the Marine and Coastal Act 2018. The adopted plans will now be submitted to the State Government for final approval.
