Central Goldfields Shire Council adopted the Tree Management Plan at its Meeting of Council last night (25/08).
The Tree Management Plan will ensure Council manages the risks associated with trees within all our townships – this includes street trees, trees in parks and gardens and caravan parks.
It enables Council staff to develop an inspection regime appropriate to the level of risk posed by the tree and its location, and then to undertake pruning and maintenance as required.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said more than 6,088 trees have been assessed and recorded within our municipality.
“It’s so important that we continue to preserve and maintain our trees for our whole community to enjoy now and in the future.
“The safety of our community is also paramount. We know that there have been a number of tragedies involving tree failures in other council areas.
“Investigations into such tragedies have highlighted the need for robust tree management plans that would best mitigate risk of these tragedies happening locally
“Without a formal management plan Council has a heightened exposure to reputational and financial risk in the event of such an occurrence.
“The Tree Management Plan will allow Council to appropriately manage the risks associated with trees in our townships.”
