Council appoints new Sustainable Development Director

Griffith City Council is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director, Mr Bruce Gibbs who commenced in the role last week.

Mr Gibbs has taken up the Director Sustainable Development role and comes to Council with more than 20 years’ experience in urban and regional planning across Tasmania, Queensland and the UK in both the public and private sectors.

Mr Gibbs, who comes to Council from Tasmania, will be joined by his partner Tam and their three children.

He comes to Griffith City Council having spent the last 12 years leading the planning team in the role of Principal Planner for Clarence City Council, which takes in the eastern shore of Hobart.

Griffith City Council General Manager, Mr Brett Stonestreet said Bruce has extensive qualifications in town planning which is an important skill set for Griffith considering the current growth of our City.

“I am excited to welcome Bruce to the team and am delighted he has chosen to make Griffith his home,” said Mr Stonestreet.

Mayor Doug Curran said he was pleased to have such an exceptional person appointed to the role.

“I congratulate Bruce and I have no doubt he will do his very best to help Council and Griffith continue to grow and prosper,” Councillor Curran said.

“As Director of Sustainable Development, Bruce will have significant input into the important work being undertaken within Development Assessment, Planning and Building Services, as well as Environment and Health, which is something we know the community will appreciate.”
