North Parramatta is set to welcome Duba Lane and Wali Lane to its map after Council endorsed the naming proposal at its ordinary meeting last night.
Residents requested the two unnamed lanes were given names to improve deliveries and access to essential services.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Pierre Esber said Council worked with the Dharug Boorooberongal Elders Aboriginal Corporation to propose several Dharug names for consideration. The community was then invited to vote on the preferred names.
“Parramatta continues to grow as a whole, and it is important that we work with the community to be able to provide them with their needs,” Cr Esber said.
“Once approved by the Geographical Names Board, these lanes will be much more user friendly and easier to find for the likes of delivery drivers.”
“‘I’d like to thank the community for their request and for taking part in the community consultation process for this project.”
Council endorsed the use of Duba Lane for the laneway running north-south between Bellevue Street and William Street and Wali Lane for the second laneway running east-west which can be entered from Saunders Street.
The names will now be submitted to the Geographical Names Board for official gazettal.
This is the second recent naming proposal for unnamed lanes in North Parramatta, after the naming of Birrung Lane, Warrawal Lane and Mulu Mulu Lane was completed in late 2022.
