Commercial enterprises, entrepreneurs, creatives and community-led businesses can call on Corangamite Shire Council for targeted assistance and support.

At its September meeting, Council endorsed the new Business Assistance Scheme.

As part of ‘Grow and Prosper Corangamite, the Corangamite Economic Growth and Prosperity Framework 2022 – 2032’, it is a total refresh of business support.

Mayor Kate Makin said community consultation to develop ‘Grow and Prosper’ found a clear aspiration to make Corangamite one of the most business-friendly municipalities in Victoria.

“This new integrated Business Assistance Scheme will help local businesses grow and make it easier for businesses to establish in our Shire,” Cr Makin said.

“It will also give businesses connections to expert or professional services and advice.

Cr Makin said the program is a four-stream model.

  • Business Façade Improvement

(Up to $3,000 for physical works, $500 for landscaping to enhance the visual appearance and function of their building and increase street appeal)

  • Creative Industries and Placemaking

(Up to $2,000 to support entrepreneurs, creatives and established businesses to create and deliver inclusive and vibrant projects)

  • Community Enterprise

(Up to $2,000 to support inclusive projects to encourage enterprise skills, build economic capacity and employment opportunities)

  • Fees and Enabling Infrastructure

(Up to 40% of enabling infrastructure cost and 50% of fees or charges to encourage development that is significant to the community including new business establishment)

Proposals must be discussed with Council’s Economy and Prosperity Team who will work with applicants and provide application forms.

The Business Assistance Scheme is available year-round. Only projects that are ready to be implemented will go forward to Council for funding consideration.
