Council Improves Community Safety

Cairns Regional Council has completed the installation of new CCTV infrastructure at four locations across the Cairns Local Government Area.

The Queensland Government contributed almost $100,000, which was matched by Cairns Regional Council to deliver new CCTV installations across four local business and community precincts.

New CCTV coverage has been installed at:

  • Gordonvale – Norman Park
  • Edmonton – Bruce Highway
  • Manunda – Anderson Road
  • Edge Hill – Woodward & Collins intersection

Local businesses and community stakeholders were consulted during the planning and evaluation phase to help identify priority locations and confirm community support for the new infrastructure.

The new CCTV systems aim to help deter crime and anti-social behaviour, improve passive surveillance and support safer public spaces for businesses, residents and visitors across the Cairns region.

Cairns Regional Council values the Queensland Government’s investment in strengthening local community safety and acknowledges the important role this funding has played in delivering improved security outcomes for local business centres.

This project has been jointly funded through the Queensland Government’s Secure Communities Partnerships Program– Round 1 Local Council to directly support and improve small business precincts.
