Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is encouraging community groups in areas affected by the 2019 bushfires to coordinate with Council when applying for Round 1 of Queensland Bushfires Flexible Funding Grants.
The Australian Government grants that are administered by the Queensland Government Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors remain open for applications until 2.00 pm, Wednesday 3 June 2020.
TRC Environment and Community Service Committee Chair, Cr James O’Shea said the grants program aims to support the disaster resilience and recovery outcomes for disaster-affected Local Government areas, including the Toowoomba Region.
“Council would like to hear from interested parties that may have innovative, grassroots initiatives that fit the grants program’s criteria,” Cr O’Shea said.
“Council itself can apply for the grants to fund projects under the Local Bushfire Recovery Plan. We want to work with other groups in our region to maximise the opportunity for successful applications that can be implemented in our area.
“Council Officers will be able to assist with applications and also connect groups to broader efforts driving recovery and empowering the community to be disaster resilient.
“The grants are open to Queensland-based non-government organisations, research bodies, industry groups and peak bodies, community groups, and Local Governments in the 23 disaster-affected local government areas.
