Council moves forward with shared trail plans

Shared trails linking major towns in the shire are a step closer to reality following the adoption of two studies by Council.

Last night Council adopted two studies which outlined opportunities for shared trails:

The studies explore and make recommendations for the development of enjoyable and safe shared use trail links between major towns in the region, designed to encourage cycling, walking and running for people across a range of abilities.

Feedback obtained during the public exhibition of the draft studies earlier in 2019 showed overwhelming support for the development of shared trails in the Macedon Ranges. This feedback was assessed and was used to guide the final studies presented to Council.

Broad consultation with community group stakeholders, land owners/managers, authorities and the Macedon Ranges community was a key component of the studies’ development. Last night Councillors have thanked all residents and visitors involved for their interest and input to the studies.

As well as endorsing both studies, Council decided to start advocacy and funding efforts for the staged implementation and development of the trails. Once funded, further consultation will occur into the detailed design and location of the final trails.
