Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to collaborate with the People and Parks Foundation to locally champion the Nature Pact 2023 campaign.

During the month of September, the initiative encourages Greater Shepparton residents to pledge to spending at least two hours a week connecting with and caring for the natural environment.

Greater Shepparton City Council’s RiverConnect Project Officer, Alison White, says she hopes local residents will be inspired to experience the benefits of some beloved local nature spots.

“Our parks and waterways provide the perfect setting to connect with nature and enjoy enriching experiences. From Victoria Park Lake to the Australian Botanic Gardens in Kialla, and the Shared Path along Broken River Drive, these spaces offer not just scenic beauty but also a therapeutic refuge for all,” she said.

“Modern science is increasingly affirming what Traditional Owners have always known: human well-being is directly linked to the health of our natural environment. Let’s take this opportunity to care for the nature that cares for us.”

As part of the #NaturePact2023 campaign, there are some fantastic opportunities for Greater Shepparton residents to engage with the natural environment.

The Boulevard Bush Reserve Community Day, held from 10.00am to 12.00pm on Sunday 17 September 2023, provides a guided walk to learn about local flora and fauna, and allows participants to partake in a nature treasure hunt and enjoy a peaceful morning tea beside the beautiful Kaiela or Goulburn River. Registrations are required.

World Rivers Day on Sunday 24 September 2023, offers a morning of free school holiday fun at Victoria Park Lake. Activities for the day will include the first-ever River Run Race, where participants gather a team, create a theme and costume, and build a canoe to race on land. Alongside this unique event, there will be other stalls, activities, food and entertainment.

For more details about these events and to register, visit the RiverConnect website or phone Council on 5832 9700.
