Moira Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest to lease and develop a community hub and visitor information point within the Numurkah Shire offices at 99 Melville Street Numurkah.

Moira Shire General Manager Community Sally Rice said the EOI process was an opportunity to further explore the community and business ideas that had been proposed during the development of council’s Visitor Services Strategy in 2017.

“This is a unique opportunity for a community, not for profit or commercial organisation to develop an exciting community hub and visitor information point in the heart of Numurkah’s retail area,” said Ms Rice.

“This facility was built to serve the needs of the Numurkah Shire. Through this EOI process we hope to reactivate the underutilised areas to better service the modern-day needs and interests of the Numurkah community,” said Ms Rice.

The successful applicant’s community hub concept must include a visitor information point and may include gallery, exhibition or art spaces, a café or eatery as well as other community services and volunteer opportunities.

The lease area includes the foyer, toilets, kitchen and storage and the President’s and Council chamber meeting rooms, with the applicant responsible for management, operation, maintenance and development of the facility.

“The EOI process allows anyone to put a proposal together for consideration by council. There’s no guarantee we will receive an acceptable proposal and if a lease doesn’t go ahead, the facility will continue to be managed by council.

“Importantly, while this process is underway there are no changes to the operation of the facility,” said Ms Rice.
