Benalla Rural City Council was proud to show its support for IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ discrimination, by raising the Pride Flag on Wednesday, May 17.

This symbolic act highlights Council’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and fostering a welcoming environment for all members of the community.

IDAHOBIT, celebrated globally on 17 May each year, was created to acknowledge the World Health Organisation removing homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases in 1990.

The day provides an opportunity for individuals, organisations, and communities to come together and advocate for the rights and well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community. It aims to promote equality, challenge discrimination, and raise awareness around barriers that continue.

By flying the Pride Flag this week, Benalla Rural City Council demonstrates its solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.

Council encourages all businesses, community organisations, and individuals in Benalla to join in the celebration of diversity and show their support for IDAHOBIT.

Together, let us celebrate diversity, advocate for equality, and foster a community where everyone can live their lives authentically and without fear.
