A team of Council staff is set to take on one of the biggest fun runs in the country this weekend in a bid to raise further funds and awareness for White Ribbon.
The Council team will hit the streets of Adelaide for this weekend’s City-Bay Fun Run under the White Ribbon banner, the third time a Council-based team has done so.
Council’s White Ribbon Committee Chair, White Ribbon Advocate and General Manager Development Mandy Whelan is among those set to take part in the event and said it was a great way to raise awareness about White Ribbon and the push to stop men’s violence against women.
“It’s been fantastic to once again see how staff have thrown themselves into this event, putting in hours of training during their own time to ensure they’re prepared,” Ms Whelan said.
“The City-Bay Fun Run is the perfect event to help raise the profile of White Ribbon and continue to spread the message that men’s violence against women is simply not on, and must be stopped.
“It’s a massive event with a very high profile, making it ideal to potentially reach tens of thousands of people with the White Ribbon message.
“And based on the past two years, it’s a cause that certainly gets picked up on by our fellow fun-run participants.”
Council’s team comprises staff from a broad range of areas within the organisation.
Individual team members will cover their own entry fees, travel and accommodation costs for the event and have been training in their own time, outside of working hours.
Over the past two years, Council-based City-Bay Fun Run teams have raised more than $6500 for White Ribbon.
