Council to continue road and drainage project planning

Bass Coast Shire Council will continue to investigate a potential special charge scheme for road and drainage upgrade works for the Surf Beach and Sunderland Bay estates.

The Surf Beach and Sunderland Bay estates are the next highest priority on Council’s Urban Road and Drainage Improvement Policy Priority List. A large number of property owners in these estates are currently experiencing drainage, dust and traffic safety issues.

Initial community consultation for the upgrade project and special charge scheme was carried out in 2021, with a report outlining the results presented to Council at Wednesday’s (16 March) Meeting.

Following this report, Council resolved to move to the Project Planning Phase, which will include the preparation of concept plans, cost estimates as well as the draft cost apportionment. Further community consultation will take place over the coming months to assist the development of the plans and cost estimates.

During the initial community engagement period, 1033 property owners in Surf Beach and Sunderland Bay estates were directly contacted with the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed road and drainage upgrade project. From these property owners, 474 responded via phone calls, letters and online feedback, which included 293 participating in the survey questionnaire.

An interactive online engagement platform was also used to gather community feedback, which received 1164 comments from 205 property owners.
