Councillors progress plans for Mildura Marina development

A development in the Mildura Marina precinct, which promises to transform the New South Wales entry to Mildura, has moved a step forward following a decision at tonight’s Planning Delegated Committee Meeting.

Mildura Rural City Councillors tonight endorsed an alternate motion approving conditional plans for a hotel/convention centre and residential development in the precinct.

Councillor for Infrastructure and Assets Glenn Milne, who moved the alternate motion, said the development was one of the most eagerly anticipated projects in the region.

“Tonight’s decision provides a way forward for this long-awaited project to be realised, subject to the conditions included in the motion we endorsed tonight,” Cr Milne said.

The new conditions have been developed to ensure the required detail can be considered once amended plans are submitted by the applicant.

“While there’s still a way to go, including working closely with the developers on the new conditions, this certainly represents progress on what could be a transformative project for our riverfront,” Cr Milne said.

“From a development perspective, it will help realise the potential of the Mildura Marina precinct, which has long promised to be one of the major attractions along our riverfront.

“It will provide the missing piece of the puzzle in terms of a hotel/convention centre in the precinct, as well as stimulate further residential growth in one of highest-profile riverfront areas of our city.

“From a tourism and economic development perspective, having an attractive hotel/convention centre and vibrant residential area facing visitors as they cross the George Chaffey Bridge sends a clear message our region is a thriving and welcoming city to visit and invest in.”

Cr Milne acknowledged both the vision of the developers as well as Council staff for developing the new conditions which enabled tonight’s alternate motion to be considered.

As part of the motion endorsed at tonight’s meeting, the applicant will be required to submit amended plans for the project addressing the new conditions.
