Cessnock City Council is proud to announce the completion of upgrades to the courts at George Jeffery Park in Kearsley.

The project involved refurbishing the existing tennis court and the construction of a new multi-purpose court.

The upgrade to the courts aim to benefit community, recreation, sport and youth groups by providing access to a free, inclusive facility for physical activity and social interaction.

To celebrate the upgrade, Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal took to the courts for the official opening alongside students from Kearsley Public School

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said it’s a welcome space for all members of the community to enjoy.

“The new multi-purpose court, along with the refurbished tennis court, offer opportunities for residents to come together and participate in a range of recreational activities,” said Clr Suvaal.

“Growing up in Kearsley, we never had the opportunity to access such fantastic local facilities. I’m so proud of what the Council teams involved in delivering this project have achieved.

“I look forward to seeing the positive impact these upgraded courts will have on our community.”

This project was made possible by a grant received from the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities round 5.
