Northern Territory Police are reinforcing the Federal and Territory Governments’ and Health Departments’ message to stay home this Easter.
NT Police, Public and Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.
2,668 compliance checks have now been completed with seven fines issued.
Physical distance monitoring and enforcing the public gathering limit of ten persons also continues.
Territorians are strongly advised to observe the two person limit where possible.
The key message to all Territorians is to “Stay home, if you can”.
Commander Tony Fuller, the Incident controller at the Emergency Operations Centre, said every Territorian needs to take responsibility to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“Stay home, keep to your immediate family’, said Commander Fuller.
“It’s important that we limit our contact with others. The NT is the only jurisdiction that hasn’t had a death due to the virus and so far there’s been no community transmission, we want it to stay that way.
“This Easter, if you can, support your local businesses and restaurants, order some takeaway. Money that you might have spent camping can be put towards supporting locals.
“Most parks are closed and fishing is only possible at certain spots.
“Police will be highly visible over the Easter weekend. If you are fishing it should be no more than two in a boat or just immediate family groups.
“Groups should not be congregating and social distancing must be observed. We are asking people to corporate, we don’t want to have the hard line approach that is being enforced interstate but that can be enacted should people fail to behave responsibly.
“The public can be assured that fines will be issued to anyone not respecting the community and doing the right thing.”
