Covid – Travel requirements

Northern Territory Police are urging travellers to educate themselves on the requirements to enter the Territory prior to making any travel arrangements.

Over the past week, members from Operation Crown have issued 24 infringements to travellers who have neglected to obtain approval prior to entering the Territory.

In addition to travellers not seeking approval, one man was found to be breaching his isolation direction, he was conveyed to Howard Springs Quarantine Facility to complete the isolate and test requirement. Another man was refusing to wear a face mask. Both men have also been issued infringements.

Incident Controller Commander Hege Burns said, “The penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Direction is $5024. That is a hefty fine to pay when you can simply just follow the rules.”

“Travellers who do not have the prior approval to enter the Territory are turned around and have to fly back to where they came from. To avoid this happening to you, please ensure you understand the requirements before you travel”.

Anyone intending to enter the Northern Territory is reminded to check the restrictions on the COVID-19 website www.coronavirus.nt.gov.au before travelling.
