Covid Update: One new case recorded in NT

The Northern Territory has recorded one new case of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

A 31-year-old female from Robinson River has tested positive. The woman is a close contact of a previously recorded case and has been in quarantine at the Centre for National Resilience (CNR) since 17 November and was not infectious while in the community. This brings the total number of cases from the NT outbreak to 26.

Extensive contact tracing remains underway, with 355 close contacts identified to date for cluster two. Of these, 338 close contacts have been contacted and are isolating while 290 have returned a negative test. Close contacts will continue to be tested for COVID-19 regularly throughout their 14-day quarantine period.

Wastewater results for the period for 18 – 19 November catchment sites in Katherine were positive, including in the Binjari community. In addition, a presumptive (weak) positive was detected from the Marlow Lagoon catchment site in Palmerston, Greater Darwin. This catchment site is being re-tested today. No other unexpected results were detected in wastewater across the NT.

The NT-wide mask mandate has been lifted, except for the lockdown areas of Katherine and Robinson River.

COVID-19 testing

More than 3,000 COVID-19 tests were processed across the NT yesterday. In Katherine, 512 COVID-19 tests were undertaken yesterday while 230 tests were completed in Binjari with results expected this afternoon.

It is critical that anyone in the Territory who has symptoms gets tested for COVID-19 immediately to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The Katherine East Side Clinic is located in the Youth Outreach Building in the Eastside Shop Complex and is open today and tomorrow from 9am to 3pm.

The Katherine Hospital Pandemic Clinic (Drive-Through Testing Site) is open today and tomorrow from 9am to 3pm.

The Katherine walk-in COVID-19 testing clinic is open today and tomorrow from 9am to 3pm.

In Darwin, the Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site is open today from 8am to 6pm Bookings are preferred.

COVID-19 testing sites are also open in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy. Testing is also available at NT Health clinics in remote communities.

COVID-19 vaccination

More than 14,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered this week across the NT. This includes 55 vaccine doses administered in Katherine yesterday, 35 doses in Binjari and 33 doses in Tennant Creek
