Head over to the Showgrounds this Sunday to check out what’s happening in our Region’s sports and health world!

Chair of Council’s Parks Committee Councillor Cherie Rutherford said she is excited to see everything that will be on offer this weekend at the CQ Health Sports and Health Expo.

“The day will be packed with demonstrations, giveaways, and clinics,” said Cr Rutherford.

“There’ll be everything from an inflatable ninja course and free kids rugby clinic with the Classic Wallabies to a skate demonstration and battle of the football codes, as well as try outs and prizes.

“When you arrive you’ll be invited to pick up your very own health and fitness passport. This passport will list different pit stops around the event where you can check off everything from hearing to blood pressure tests and have discussions on some important topics.

“If you feel like jumping into a bit of friendly competition, there’ll be heats for a skipping rope comp running all day between 8.45am and 1pm - and there’s some prize money up for grabs!

CQ Health Chief Executive Steve Williamson said the expo helped get important health messages out to residents.

“It is vital Central Queenslanders take a proactive approach to their health to avoid lifestyle-related chronic illness which is a major problem in our community,”said Mr Williamson.

“We’re proud to support this expo in helping people increase their participation in sport and physical activity. Sport is also a great way to have fun, make new friends and supports good mental well-being.”
