Crack out colouring pens for chance to win Festive Flag Competition

Putting coloured pens to paper now could pay off at Christmas time for entrants to this year’s Festive Flag Competition.

Twenty winners of the competition will have their artwork transformed into festive flags to adorn the city with Christmas cheer.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said she was looking forward to seeing this year’s entries.

“Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year, and seeing so many talented artists have their designs turned into beautiful festive flags is one of my favourite parts of Christmastime,” Cr Hill said.

“This year we will have 20 winning festive flag designs, as voted on by our councillors. Winners will be presented with corflutes of their designs as well as a certificate signed by myself.

“We’re also inviting the community to get involved in judging this year. Twenty designs that were shortlisted will go into the running to be one of 10 Council Christmas cards. Keep an eye on the Council Facebook page for more details on how to vote.”

Cr Hill said the competition wasn’t just for individual artists.

“You don’t have to be a solo artist to enter the Festive Flag Competition, so get your school class or siblings together to create a design that encompasses Christmas in the north,” she said.

“Last year’s competition had more than 300 entries, so I can’t wait to see the creative designs that are entered into this year’s Festive Flag Competition.”

The Festive Flag Competition runs until Friday 28 August.
