Cracker Night 2022

Elise Archer,Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs

This year’s Cracker Night will be held on Saturday, 28 May 2022 and Tasmanians can now apply for a permit by visiting WorkSafe Tasmania’s website.

This year, to reduce the impact on animals and wildlife, neighbours are encouraged to come together for neighbourhood events, rather than holding multiple events within the one area.

For those taking part, please make sure that you notify your neighbours before the event and be flexible to address any concerns they may have.

In 2016, following extensive consultation, the Tasmanian Government introduced a new framework for the use of fireworks. These changes included restricting the use of Type 2 fireworks to one night a year, and limiting the displays to a maximum of 30 minutes between the hours of 6 pm and 10 pm.

The new framework also improved notification requirements so that members of the public are better informed about nearby displays.

After more than five years in operation, the Tasmanian Government will now review the framework for the use of fireworks in Tasmania. This will occur through a formal review of the Explosives Regulations 2012.

Calls for public submissions will open shortly and I encourage all interested Tasmanians to make a submission.
