Creating Jobs: Yarrawonga Flood Mitigation Complete

The TerritoryLabor Government is delivering critical flood mitigation works with theYarrawonga Catchment now complete.

Upgraded worksinclude the enhancement of the Yarrawonga Road drainage and installation of newculverts under Wallaby Holtze Road overall reducing the risk and impact offlooding events in Yarrawonga.

Upgrades todrainage measures are happening more broadly with works also occurring on theStuart Highway improving the corridor and stormwater drainage on Tulagi Road creating 50 jobs.

This jobcreating infrastructure project and others similar to this are part of theflood mitigation measures recommended by the Darwin Flood Mitigation AdvisoryCommittee.

As stated bythe Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, EvaLawler:

Creating localjobs is this Governments number on priority. The Yarrawonga Catchment has seen40 jobs created with six Indigenous employees forming part of the team.

Historically,a number of areas in the greater Darwin region have experienced floodingassociated with unmitigated stormwater flows, particularly in Yarrawonga.

The DarwinRegion Flood Mitigation Report in 2015 recommended several structural andnon-structural flood mitigation options for Rapid Creek, Ludmilla, Yarrawongaand Wadham Lagoon in Howard Springs.

Implementationof these recommendations is continuing; delivering flood mitigation measures tobetter protect businesses, residents and their properties.
