Ahead of the local summer of cricket, Camden Council has officially opened the Fergusons Land Cricket Facility in Camden.
The area’s premier cricket facility, Fergusons Land was completed in January 2022. But soon after, the Camden area was devastated by four floods in five months, causing damage at the site. Council has since worked hard to rejuvenate the facility ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The first bowl of the season will hit the pitch next month.
The $8.4 million facility was partly funded by the Western Parkland City Liveability program which is part of the Western Sydney City Deal. The Western Sydney City Deal is a partnership between the three levels of government overseen by the State and Federal Governments and the eight Mayors of the Western Parkland City Councils.
Fergusons Land contains a premium cricket field, an amenities building, canteen, training nets with turf pitches and parking.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said she was excited to see the cricket season return in Camden.
“As the Camden community continues to grow, it’s important we deliver facilities like this one for our local sporting community,” she said.
“With the floods that we faced in 2022, it’s great that we’ve been able to get the field back to ready again for the summer cricket season.”
