Criminal law specialist Emma Bradley has been appointed as a Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.
She fills the vacancy created by two Magistrates converting to part-time status and starts her new role on 12 October 2026.
Admitted to practice in 2008, Ms Bradley gained extensive experience in criminal law during her more than 10 years working at Legal Aid WA, where she commenced as a duty lawyer before progressing to a higher-level solicitor role.
At Legal Aid, and during her almost two years as a solicitor at the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA, she acted for clients through all stages of criminal proceedings and appeared regularly in WA’s regional and remote courts.
Prior to becoming a judicial officer, Ms Bradley served as a State Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for WA (ODPP) from June 2024.
She conducted matters across indictable and summary jurisdictions that involved predominantly serious sexual offences as part of the ODPP’s Children’s Court team.
Ms Bradley will also sit as a Magistrate of the Children’s Court of WA.
As stated by Attorney General Dr Tony Buti:
“I congratulate Emma Bradley on her appointment as a Magistrate of the WA Magistrates Court.
“She is highly regarded in the legal profession, having served in Legal Aid’s criminal law division, the Aboriginal Legal Service’s criminal unit, and the ODPP’s Children’s Court team with distinction.
“Her significant experience as defence counsel in criminal matters and as a State Prosecutor provide an ideal springboard to presiding in the Magistrates Court.
“Ms Bradley’s knowledge of court operations is also enhanced by her dealings with stakeholders in the justice system including police, court staff, corrections officers, victim and witness services, and experts.”
