Cyclone watch declared for the Northern Territory, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle and a weather update for Queensland and Western Australia

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle was downgraded to a deep low early this morning as it lost its tropical characteristics, however, the system still remains very strong.

The system passed close to Norfolk Island overnight, bringing damaging winds, large surf and heavy rainfall to the island.

Winds gusted to 102km/h and the island recorded 102 mm of rainfall in the 48 hours to 9 am Sunday.

The cyclone warning was cancelled early this morning for Norfolk Island.

A Severe Weather Warning remains for Norfolk Island for abnormally high tides and very heavy surf.
