Statement from Camden Council – Spider House, Oran Park activation

Spider House, Oran Park activation:

Camden Council acknowledges the strong community support for the Spider House Halloween display and recognises the enjoyment it has brought to residents and visitors.

Council welcomes opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate, and appreciates the creativity, effort and enthusiasm residents put into creating seasonal displays that bring people into our neighbourhoods.

Following a recent meeting with the family, Council staff are investigating options and will provide advice for future Halloween activations.

Council appreciates the passion residents have shown in supporting the display. At the same time, Council must balance community enjoyment with its responsibility to ensure activities are safe and considerate of surrounding residents.

Looking ahead to the Christmas season:

With Christmas fast approaching, Council also encourages residents planning festive light displays and decorations to consider the safety and amenity of their neighbourhoods.

Christmas displays are a wonderful way to bring communities together, and Council encourages residents to enjoy these celebrations responsibly. Residents setting up displays that may attract visitors are asked to be mindful of foot traffic, passing vehicles, pedestrian access, visitor parking and the safety of people gathering to view the displays.

Where activities are expected to attract significant visitor numbers or involve organised tours, residents are encouraged to contact Council early to discuss their plans and determine whether any approvals or safety measures may be required.

Council remains committed to working collaboratively with residents and community organisers to support enjoyable, inclusive and safe community activities across Camden.

Ultimately, the aim is to ensure everyone can enjoy these special community celebrations, while keeping our residents, visitors and neighbourhoods safe.
