Dangerous Driving And Property Charges, Greater Cairns

A 40-year-old Edmonton man was arrested by officers from the Tactical Crime Squad, Cairns Dog Squad, Property Crime Squad and Gordonvale police yesterday 17 June.

It will be alleged on 12 June, Tactical Crime Squad officers located the man driving a bronze Hyundai Elantra with false number plates on Petersen Road in Edmonton.

When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, it allegedly reversed into the police vehicle before fleeing.

No one was injured.

On 18 June, officers allegedly observed the man in a Holden Captiva, before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device at Gordonvale, and recovering the vehicle at Woree.

A short time later, police arrested the man at a Bayview Heights property.

It is further alleged the man committed more property and traffic offences over the past week, including additional dangerous and unlicenced driving offences, as well as the alleged theft of fuel from a Cairns Fuel station in February.

He was charged with two counts of driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, and one count each of damaging emergency vehicle when operating a motor vehicle, vehicles used on roads must be registered, stealing, evasion , drive uninsured vehicle, and using or permitting use of vehicle for which a number plate attached recorded as cancelled, lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged.

Police opposed bail and he is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 18 June.
