Dangerous driving charges at Toowoomba

Two men have been charged with multiple offences after a stolen vehicle was allegedly driven dangerously through Toowoomba early this morning.

It will be alleged around 12.10am on July 3 two men broke into a business on Anzac Avenue at Drayton and located keys which they used to steal two white Holden Colorado dual cabs.

It is further alleged at 12.45am the men drove one of the stolen vehicles to a shopping centre on Drayton Road they approached an ATM and attempted to break it open, however were unsuccessful.

A short time later the dual cab was witnessed by allegedly driving directly through a red light at the intersection of Ruthven and Long Street Toowoomba before continuing along the wrong side of the road.

The same vehicle then attended a job site at Rielly Street Torrington around 2.20am where the men allegedly stole a box trailer, hitching it to the rear of the stolen dual cab.

At around 3.00am police successfully deployed a Tyre Deflation Device on the vehicle while it was still towing the stolen box trailer. The dual cab continued to travel east on Carrington Road, failing to stop for police.

It is further alleged one of the men climbed into the back of the vehicle as it was still in motion and disconnected the trailer, causing it to roll away and strike a traffic light at Richmond Drive.

The vehicle continued to be driven in a dangerous manner at speed before stopping along Darling Street due to sustaining significant damage.

The two occupants were subsequently arrested by police.

A 38-year-old Harlaxton man has been charged with three counts of enter premises, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evasion, wilful damage, attempted stealing and driving unlicensed.

A 35-year-old Drayton man has been charged with three counts of enter premises, two counts of unlawful used of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, attempted stealing and wilful damage.

Both are due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow (July 4).
