Dangerous operation of a vehicle at Townsville

A group of youths have been arrested after a stolen car allegedly rammed a police vehicle in Townsville last night.

Around 9pm police received information that two stolen cars were driving dangerously on Old Common Road, Belgian Gardens.

Police located a black Holden Colorado on Old Common Road and a tyre deflation device was deployed. The vehicle continued to drive in a dangerous manner for a short distance on Bundock Street.

The Colorado appeared to slow down before accelerating and ramming a police vehicle before turning onto William Street where it was stopped by other police crews.

Eight youths were detained including the 16-year-old male driver, three 14-year-old males, one 14-year-old female, one 17-year-old female, one 17-year-old male and one 12-year-old female.

The youths will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Two police officers received minor injuries.
