Davey Street development approved

A proposal to develop a four story, 27-apartment building in Davey Street was approved at Ballarat City Council’s November 27 Planning Special Committee meeting.

The building will be based on regional Victoria’s first Nightingale model, which focuses on socially, environmentally and financially sustainable residential housing.

The model would also deliver homes at cost to buyers, with any savings given back to residents. Priority would also be given to housing for disadvantaged groups.

Nightingale buildings are 100 per cent fossil fuel free and include rainwater harvesting and solar panels feeding back into the building.

Future residents will also be involved in the design, planning and development process and active transport, including public transport, walking, cycling and car share services, are also encouraged.

It is also proposed a food and drink premises will be located on the ground level, with car and bicycle parking at basement level.

To allow the development to go ahead, the current non-heritage warehouse on the land will be demolished.
