David Anderson, our head of Vessel Safety and Cargo Regulation, will continue to chair the IMO Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers.
The Carriage of Cargoes and Containers CC Sub-Committee develops international standards for:
- the safe transport of packaged dangerous goods
- solid bulk cargoes
- bulk gas cargoes
- containers by sea.
It also develops international standards for the safe use of alternative fuels and new technologies on ships.

First elected as chair in 2024, David’s re-election reflects his leadership and expertise, and Australia’s longstanding contribution to helping shape safe, secure and sustainable international shipping.
“The carriage of cargoes, including dangerous goods, remains a critical area of maritime safety, as each type of cargo comes with unique risks to the vessel, crew and environment,” David said.
He also emphasised that the emergence of alternative fuels and new technologies present significant new risks that need to be addressed.
“The rise of alternative fuels and new technologies, such as onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS), introduce new risks and the Sub-Committee is dedicated to supporting their safe adoption as part of the push toward maritime decarbonisation.”
David will continue in his role at AMSA while serving as Chair of the IMO Sub-Committee on CCC.
