De Soza Park partnership to create new toddler play space

The City of Ballarat and the Buninyong and District Community Bank are working in partnership to create a new play space designed specifically for toddlers at De Soza Park, Buninyong.

The project is part of the De Soza Park Masterplan and follows extensive community consultation over a number of years.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor says it is exciting to be working in partnership with the local bank to turn this vision for a unique play space into a reality.

“It’s fantastic to see the City of Ballarat and the bank working together in the development of this initiative,” he says.

“The new facilities will be a fantastic addition to De Soza Park, and we look forward to the youngest members of our community actively enjoying the space.”

Community Bank representative Stephen Falconer says “this is exactly the sort of project the Buninyong and District Community Bank work to provide for. The new facilities meet the needs of a demographic that hasn’t previously been met and we jumped on board when the idea was pitched.”

“As a Community Bank, we exist to fund projects like the toddler play space and are driven by the significant impacts these contributions make to local families, groups and organisations. This year marks over $1 million being invested back into the community.”

The $60,000 project includes $40,000 from the City of Ballarat and $20,000 from the Buninyong and District Community Bank.

The playground will feature a community art project including timber toadstools and stepped log rounds and a water play area with a hand-pump.

Work began in early February and the playground is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
