Detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit, Homicide Investigation Unit and Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating after a person died following an alleged assault at the Maryborough Correctional Centre last week.
Information indicates around 9am on Wednesday, November 26, a 28-year-old person was located unresponsive following a suspected altercation with two other prisoners.
Police attended and declared a crime scene.
The 28-year-old person was transported to hospital for treatment, but passed away from their injuries on Monday, December 1.
Investigations into the incident leading to the person’s death are ongoing.
