To mark World Environment Day 2026, Council is calling on the community to capture photos that help tell the story of our local waterways.
World Environment Day 2026 is a global day that encourages communities to reflect on how we care for our environment and respond to the impacts of climate change.
This year’s focus highlights the growing challenges of climate impacts on water, including flooding, rising sea levels and the health of our waterways.
Water tells a continuous story across Cardinia Shire, moving from the hills through our creeks and wetlands before reaching the coast. What happens upstream matters downstream, and the way we care for our waterways today shapes the environment we leave for future generations.
As part of the upcoming Catchment to Coast exhibition at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Council is calling on local photographers to help bring this story to life.
Community members are encouraged to submit photographs of local our waterways for potential inclusion in the exhibition, including creeks, streams, rivers, wetlands, beaches, dams, drains and even puddles or areas of waterlogging.
Selected community photographs will be digitally featured in the exhibition to showcase the places that matter to our community.
To get involved, photos can be submitted through our online form and should include your name, the location of the photo and contact information.
Catchment to Coast will be on display at the Cardinia Cultural Centre from 23 July to 31 August 2026 and will explore how water moves through our shire.
