A man will face court following an alleged wounding on the state’s Mid North Coast.
Just after 6.30pm on Friday 4 September 2026, emergency services were called to a home on Teague Drive, South Kempsey, following reports of a concern for welfare.
On arrival, officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District were told two men – aged 34 and 35 – who are known to each other were involved in an argument.
During the argument, the older man allegedly threw a screwdriver at the younger man, which lodged into his right eye, before leaving the scene.
The younger man was treated by NSW paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a stable condition. He was later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, about 3.30pm yesterday (Saturday 5 September 2026), police arrested the 35-year-old man at the same location.
He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm (DV).
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 1 today (Sunday 6 September 2026).
