Police have arrested a man following a pursuit in an allegedly stolen BMW through Melbourne’s southeast this morning.
It is alleged offenders forced entry into a property on Beddoe Avenue in Brighton East where they stole the keys for two cars about 3.45am.
A short time later, they allegedly entered a property on Union Street in Brighton East. They were disturbed by the occupant and fled empty handed.
Police will allege the offenders returned to the house on Beddoe Avenue and stole a white BMW about 4.20am.
They also entered a different property on Union Street and stole a green Subaru.
A short time later, Air Wing spotted the BMW travelling at speed on the Nepean Highway towards Mordialloc.
Police units on the ground followed the car through multiple suburbs before it was pursued on the Monash Freeway.
Stop sticks were deployed in Keysborough, but the BMW continued on its rims.
The car came to a stop inbound on the Monash Freeway in Glen Waverley, around 1km from Huntingdale Road.
The driver, an 18-year-old Baxter man, was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and will be interviewed.
Operation Trinity is solely dedicated to preventing and responding to burglaries and car thefts – running from dusk to dawn across Melbourne each night.
The operation sees uniform police supported by a range of specialist units, including the Dog Squad, Public Order Response and Air Wing.
While arrests remain high, the primary aim of Operation Trinity is to prevent people having their homes broken into in the first place.
To achieve this, Trinity units conduct a range of disruption activities, including saturating suburbs based on intelligence, intercepting thousands of vehicles each month, and nightly patrols around the homes of Victoria’s most prolific burglars and youth gang members.
These offenders are largely opportunistic by nature – seeking easy access points through unlocked doors and windows.
As such, police implore the community to take simple steps such as locking all doors and windows on your home and car.
