Fairfield City Council’s Deerbush Park Playground has been awarded the 2022 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces.

Fairfield City Council’s Deerbush Park Playground project at Fairfield Showground has taken out the 2022 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces.

Deerbush Park Playground is Council’s first all-abilities playground that includes a Liberty Swing which allows children in wheelchairs to swing in safety, a wheelchair-accessible carousel, ground-level trampoline, accessible toilets with adult change tables, elderly-friendly gym, walking track, toddler and big kid zone, splash-pad, seating and shade.

The jury commended Council on the Deerbush Park Playground project, stating the “project has delivered an impressive legacy for Fairfield City and celebrates the cultural diversity of the area, significant native vegetation, and the notion of play for all ages and abilities. A sophisticated weaving together of multiple all-abilities play elements through protected Cumberland Plain woodland has created a rich journey of active experiences blending well with its natural environment and creating a ‘Place for Everyone’.”

The AILA Landscape Architecture Awards program promotes the achievements and work of landscape architects in Australia, providing an opportunity for public and peer recognition, and demonstrating to industry, business, government and the wider community the positive impact the profession has on Australian lives through the planning and design of the built and natural environments.
