FRINGE-goers to Walk This Way safely through Northbridge

A new partnership between the Road Safety Commission and ARTRAGE will use creativity and entertainment to promote safer travel during FRINGE WORLD.

The inaugural Walk This Way initiative will transform the journey between festival venues into a vibrant and engaging experience, encouraging audiences to make safer travel choices as they explore Northbridge and Perth’s entertainment precincts.

Unveiled at the FRINGE WORLD Program Launch on 5 November, the Road Safety Commission and ARTRAGE partnership will combine creative installations, pedestrian wayfinding, performers and community engagement to support safer journeys throughout the festival.

The collaboration marks two firsts for Western Australia: an inaugural arts-based road safety partnership and the first major initiative centred specifically on pedestrian behaviour. The two-year partnership also forms part of the WA Government’s commitment to improving pedestrian safety through active, inclusive and community-focused engagement.

A new way to experience safer journeys

As FRINGE-goers move between venues, Walk This Way will encourage audiences to slow down, stay aware of their surroundings and consider how they will get home.

Clearly marked Walk This Way pathways will connect key festival locations with nearby train stations, bus stops, rideshare pick-up zones and carparks, helping people navigate the precinct and make safer transport choices.

Performers, ambassadors and street hosts will be positioned at key locations throughout Northbridge, creating a welcoming atmosphere while providing guidance to attendees.

The initiative will also feature creative signage, visual prompts and messaging along key pedestrian and transport corridors, supported by a digital and social media campaign.

Your last stop before heading home

At the heart of Walk This Way will be the Departure Hub, located within Russell Square’s The Pleasure Garden.

Designed as a place to pause, recharge and prepare for the journey home, the hub will provide phone-charging facilities, seating, cooling misters, light snacks and helpful travel information.

Whether people are waiting for friends, checking their transport options or taking a moment to reset after an exciting night, the Departure Hub will offer a comfortable space to plan their next move.

The aim is simple: to help people finish a great night out with a safe journey home.

Fringe Launch

Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said the partnership was an opportunity to reach people in a new and engaging way.

“FRINGE WORLD is one of WA’s most loved cultural events, bringing people together to celebrate creativity, the arts and community.

“Walk This Way is about helping people enjoy everything the festival has to offer while making it easier to plan a safe trip home.

“Road safety boils down to caring about people, and this partnership will support more people to move safely through the festival while still enjoying all the energy, excitement and spontaneity that make FRINGE WORLD unique.”
