WA Museum Boola Bardip has welcomed its three millionth visitor, marking a significant milestone since the museum opened in November 2020.

The lucky three millionth visitor was surprised with a special welcome upon entering the museum and presented with an exclusive prize package.

Since opening in 2020, WA Museum Boola Bardip has welcomed visitors from across Australia and around the world, establishing itself as one of Western Australia’s leading cultural tourism attractions.

Through its permanent galleries, public programs, scientific research, and major exhibitions, the museum explores cultures, places, environments, and shares stories by creating experiences that inspire curiosity, promote discovery, support learning, and foster cultural connections.

Major exhibitions have played an important role in attracting new audiences and strengthening Perth’s cultural tourism offer. Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor, for instance, attracted 323,223 visitors and generated $196.3 million in economic activity for Western Australia, with more than 70,000 visitors travelling from outside WA and contributing almost $72 million to the State’s economy.

The museum’s next major exhibition,Dinosaurs Uncovered, opens on 21 November. The world-premiere exhibition combines fossils, immersive technology, interactive experiences, and life-sized reconstructions to explore how palaeontologists use fossil evidence to recreate prehistoric worlds.

Boola Bardip’s success as a visitor attraction has also been recognised by the tourism industry. The museum won Gold for Major Tourist Attraction at the WA Tourism Awards for three consecutive years, earning a place in the WA Tourism Hall of Fame, before receiving Silver in the Major Tourist Attraction category at the 2025 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Reaching three million visitors builds on these achievements and reflects Boola Bardip’s growing role as a cultural destination for Western Australians and visitors to the State.

As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:

“Welcoming three million visitors to WA Museum Boola Bardip is an extraordinary achievement that demonstrates the important place the museum holds in Western Australia.

“Boola Bardip is also an important part of our visitor economy, bringing people into WA, and giving locals and visitors alike another reason to experience our city.

“The success of major exhibitions such as Terracotta Warriorsshows the significant cultural and economic impact our creative industries can deliver for Western Australia.

“With another world-premiere exhibition opening later this month, there is plenty more for Western Australians and visitors to look forward to at Boola Bardip.”
