Delivering support for community services impacted by fuel costs

Nic Street,Minister for Community Services and Development

The Government has listened to concerns from the community sector regarding the impacts of the recent fuel price spike on delivery of their services.

In response to these challenges, I can announce that the Government will provide one-off grants of up to $2,000 to alleviate any immediate service delivery pressures for the State Government’s vital community service partners.

The $100,000 community services relief package will augment other measures being undertaken across government to help ensure supports for Tasmanians in need can continue, uninterrupted.

Grants will be available by application to the Department of Communities Tasmania who will assess eligibility and administer the measure.

These small one-off grants will help minimise the impact of the fuel price spike to a service’s existing budget.

This measure will be available until the end of April, at which point overall support will be reviewed.

This is in addition to the emergency support which is already available to individuals and families in need through our Family Assistance Program, which is delivered by our charity partners and provides direct relief to families suffering financial hardship, as well as our ongoing emergency food relief funding.
