Dementia Australia’s Brain Hubs coming to Emerald and Blackwater

Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia?

Dementia Australia is offering a range of support in Emerald and Blackwater between 1 August and 4 August.

There are an estimated 94,000 people living with dementia in Queensland. Without a medical breakthrough this number is expected to increase to an estimated 207,000 people living with dementia by 2058.

The Brain Hubs are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, friends and health care providers to attend free education sessions and to connect you to the information, education and support you need. Please note, bookings are essential.

Events and education sessions include:

Carer Gateway – Information Session

This session provides information for families and carers on how to access free dementia specific services including counselling, coaching, connecting with other carers, practical assistance, planned and emergency respite.

Communication and Dementia

This session provides information on dementia, the way we communicate and how changes in communication can occur as a result of dementia.

EDIE for Family Carers

This session enhances knowledge of dementia through virtual reality technology that allows participants to see the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia.

Grief, Loss and Dementia

This session provides an overview of the grief, loss and emotional impact of the changes caused by dementia.

Understanding Dementia

This session provides an introduction to dementia, including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

Worried About Your Memory?

This session provides information on memory and common changes that may occur with ageing.
