Detectives from the Sexual Crime Squad are investigating a sexual assault which is believed to have occurred along Merri Creek in Coburg overnight.
Police have been told a woman was grabbed from behind while she was running along the creek trail and sexually assaulted on the evening of Tuesday 3 December.
The woman was able to make her way to a food outlet nearby to raise the alarm and the offender fled.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
