The McGowan Government is set to bring the long awaited revitalisation of the iconic East Perth Power Station a step closer with the issue of a Request for Detailed Proposal (RFDP) document.
The five proponents short-listed during an Expression of Interest (EOI) process have been invited to participate in the next stage by submitting a concept masterplan for the site.
They will present their plans for the re-use of the heritage-listed power station building, and ideas for the adjacent developable land and how it fits within the context of the broader area.
The future development will celebrate and respect the heritage of the former Power Station Building, and preserve and interpret, the culture of the site for all Western Australians to enjoy.
The five short-listed developers that have been invited to take part in the RFDP process are Mirvac (WA), Australian Capital Equity Pty Ltd, Frasers Property Australia, LendLease Development Pty Ltd and PowerHouse City Pty Ltd.
The location of the former Power Station will provide opportunity to create a new METRONET precinct around East Perth Station, with better access to public transport and the Swan River, and facilitate interaction between the community and this iconic piece of history.
In May the McGowan Government announced $30 million in funding to prepare the site for future development, including undergrounding overhead transmission lines along the foreshore, decommissioning the switchyard and relocating the gas Pressure Reduction Station to an alternative site.
The 103-year-old power station ceased operating in 1981 and has since stood vacant.
The RFDP submission period closes December 18, 2019, with a preferred proponent to be selected in the first quarter of 2020.
