Dive in and have your say on the proposals to upgrade the popular Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool.

Concept designs for changes to the Elizabeth Street pool are now available on Participate Nillumbik for community feedback until 11.59pm, Sunday 15 October.

One of the highlights of the proposed changes is a new kids’ splash area to replace the existing toddlers’ paddle pool.

Other features include:

  • Reconstruction of the existing toilets and change rooms to improve accessibility.
  • A new covered viewing area
  • New swimming club rooms
  • New plant room with upgraded heat pumps
  • New viewing terraces with seating
  • Upgraded walkways to ensure accessible paths to all areas.

The Federal Member for McEwen, Rob Mitchell, made an election commitment in 2022 to provide $1.5 million to upgrade the pool. Council is making a formal application for this funding through the “Investing in our future program”.

Mayor Ben Ramcharan said the popular pool needed an upgrade to ensure continued use for years to come.

“Much of the supporting infrastructure is reaching its end of life or has become outdated. We particularly want to make the pool more accessible for people with a disability,” Cr Ramcharan said.

Ellis Ward Councillor Peter Perkins thanked the Federal Government for committing the funding for the exciting project.

“The pool was officially opened on 3 December 1983, so this summer will be celebrating its 40th anniversary,” Cr Perkins said.

“But while it was shiny and new 40 years ago, the facility is now getting tired and outdated. Previous upgrades have been very minor and this will be the first time that significant works will be done to the pool.

“We also intend to lodge a Growing Suburbs Fund application to the Victorian Government to help fund further long-overdue improvements to this iconic community asset.”

The Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool is managed by Aligned Leisure on behalf of Council and will reopen to the public for summer season on 1 November.
