Council’s Operations Department responded to an accident at midnight on 5 July 2023 of a truck crash on the Wimmera Highway. As a result of this accident diesel has made its way into Council’s stormwater system. Operations staff are working to remove the diesel from the stormwater system and a small section of the Wimmera River.
Residents in the area may notice the odour of diesel while going about their day, there is no need for alarm.
It is anticipated that the works will be completed by the end of the day, however there may be residual odour in the air.
The Environment Protection Authority have been notified and Council is working with other stakeholders to eliminate the issue.
