RMIT has reaffirmed its commitment to driving the digital transformation ambitions of Southeast Asia during a recent visit to Indonesia.
Vice-President International Layton Pike delivered the opening address at a launch event at the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) for the new Digital Leadership Academy for TVRI, Indonesia’s public broadcaster.
Mr Pike’s speech focused on the future of public broadcasting in the artificial intelligence era. He outlined the University’s expertise and scale, and how that could be applied, in collaboration with local partners, to meet national development needs.
“Digital technology is a priority among our growing suite of activities as we deepen our presence in Southeast Asia,” Mr Pike said.
“There are a range of opportunities where we can work together to overcome challenges, for example cyber security, infrastructure and digital leadership.”
Mr Pike joined RMIT Director, Indonesia Tantia Dian in a meeting with Vice Minister of Home Affairs Dr Bima Arya Sugiarto to discuss partnerships in leadership development, artificial intelligence and regional transformation.
They also visited the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to progress opportunities for student mobility and joint learning and research programs.
“What is interesting, is not only the programs, but the spirit of collaboration and the alignment between the universities,” Ms Tantia said.
“ITB is the leading technology university in Indonesia and RMIT is its peer in Australia. We share a lot of values and have complementary capabilities.”
